RENO, Nev. (KOLO) - A man was arrested on charges of assault with a deadly weapon after police say he ditched a handgun in a neighbor’s backyard.

Deputies with the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office responded to call for assault with a deadly weapon Sunday afternoon. Police found and interviewed a suspect at the residence who denied owning a gun.

After obtaining a search warrant and permission from a neighbor, police eventually found the gun in a neighbor’s yard. Police say the suspect, who they did not name, tossed the gun over the fence.

The man was arrested on charges of assault with a deadly weapon and was booked into the Washoe County Detention Facility.
