The best new restaurants and pubs opening in London this week

Standard UK 2024/8/22

No, it’s not coming home. But dry your eyes, mate, because from the arrival of Bristol’s best sarnies to a swanky new gastropub, this week’s openings signal that there is hope for us yet.

Sol’s

The team behind Margate’s Fort Road, Shreeji News and Foreign Exchange News have only gone and done it again. Inspired by the food and drink of the Iberian peninsula, this stylish new deli and wine bar in Bayswater offers up a delectable range of sandwiches, salads, fresh groceries and pantry goods by day, and low-intervention European vino served alongside seasonal small plates by night.

The Hound

JKS

Following the mighty success of The George and The Cadogan Arms, the brains behind JKS have decided to open a third gastropub way out west. Meander to Chiswick for cosseting, traditional pub interiors, hearty fare by Kitchen Table’s James Knappett and a pint, negroni, or both on the sunny south-facing terrace.

Open 17 Jul. 210 Chiswick High Rd, W4 (thehound.london)

If you’re not still scarred by the fact Rishi’s favourite food is reportedly the humble sandwich, mark your diaries because Bristol’s favourite sarnie shop (and winner of the Uber Eats Restaurant of the Year award in 2023) is coming to town.

Open Jul 18. 1 Gresham St, EC2 (sandwichsandwich.co.uk)

The team behind Shoreditch and Covent Garden’s best Burmese eateries, Lahpet, are about to unveil a third spot in Bermondsey, where they’ll be serving dishes centred around ingredients sourced from Myanmar alongside pickles, preserves and more to take home.
