Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 election, has thrown his support behind the party ahead of the elections scheduled for Thursday, July 4.

With the Labour Party poised to win the elections with a record number of seats, according to a poll on Tuesday, Obi wrote on social media: "Vote Labour on Thursday, 4 July."

A recent survey showed Keir Starmer's Labour Party winning a projected 484 of the 650 seats in parliament, which would be a record for the party. The last time the party had such a convincing victory was in 1997 when the party's former leader, Tony Blair, won 418 seats in a landslide win, the most in its history.

The Conservatives, who have been in power for 14 years, are predicted to only secure 64 seats, their fewest since the party was founded in 1834.

The right-wing Reform UK party was projected to win seven seats.

About the Labour Party

The Labour Party was formed in 1900 and is described as an alliance of social democrats, democratic socialists, and trade unionists. The party sits on the center-left of the political spectrum.

The Labour Party has participated in all general elections since 1922, either as a governing party or the opposition party.

There have been six Labour prime ministers and thirteen Labour ministries. Since the 2010 general election, it has been the second-largest UK political party by the number of votes cast and number of seats in the House of Commons, behind the Conservative Party and ahead of the Liberal Democrats and the Scottish National Party. The party traditionally holds its annual Labour Party Conference during party conference season.
