What recruitment shortage? More than 800 applicants apply for role at Adelaide Marriott

We frequently see headlines saying there is a recruitment shortage in the hospitality and tourism industry, however, Marriott’s new luxury hotel in Adelaide seems to be immune from the trend.

More than 800 people have reportedly applied for the 130 positions within the five-star hotel ahead of its opening next month.

The hotel held a recruitment day on Thursday to fill the roles across different departments such as front office and food and beverage.

Marriott International is set to open the 150m tall building on the corner of King William and Franklin by August this year.

Since opening online registrations for interview slots general manager Paul Gallop said the spots were quickly secured.

“We’re on a mission to engage a diverse mix of existing top hotel talents, as well as new entrants to the industry,” he said. “We are looking for people with passion for hospitality, and an outstanding attitude.

“Our training is second to one so once on-board, you’ll get all the tools needed to continue the Marriott’s legacy of excellence as we take our first footsteps in South Australia.”

According to The Advertiser, once open the hotel “will boast 285 guestrooms, two contemporary dining venues, a fitness studio and 18-metre indoor swimming pool, and a 24-hour executive lounge”.

The Marriott currently ranks in the top 10 of places to work in Australia.

“Our company’s founding philosophy is that when you take care of your people, they take care of your business,” senior area director of human resources, Natasha Rasheed said.
