Elon Musk is set to make a speech at the World AI Conference which will take place in Shanghai from July 4th to July 7th, 2024. The World Artificial Intelligence Conference (WAIC) aims to discuss how to manage AI in a way that benefits everyone. Many experts and companies will attend to share ideas and showcase new AI technologies.

The theme of the conference for this year is “Governing AI for Good and for All.” The conference will gather leading scientists, industry experts, and government representatives to explore the latest developments in AI. They will discuss topics such as robotics, autonomous systems, large-scale models, and computing power.

Additionally, the conference will focus on “AI+” applications, highlighting how AI can be integrated into various industries. This event aims to foster collaboration and innovation among key players in the AI field. And as you know, a major highlight of the conference is the scheduled appearance of Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla.

According to Gizmochina, Musk is anticipated to give a speech during the opening ceremony. However, it is not yet confirmed if he will be there in person or through a video link. In previous years, he has been involved with WAIC both in person and virtually. Musk attended the conference in person in 2019, and sent video messages in 2021 and 2022.

His recent trip to China in April 2024, where he met with Chinese Premier Li Qiang in Beijing, adds more importance to his participation in the conference. During their meeting, they talked about Tesla’s Full Self-Driving (FSD) software and issues related to data transfer permissions.

Premier Li Qiang is also set to speak at the WAIC. His involvement, alongside Musk’s, underscores the high-level discussions and collaborations expected at this year’s conference. Meanwhile, Tesla will have a prominent presence at the conference, highlighting its cutting-edge products. The display will include the Cybertruck and the newest version of Tesla’s humanoid robot, Optimus Gen 2.

As an advanced robot, Optimus Gen 2 is equipped with custom-designed actuators and sensors, a two-degree-of-freedom actuated neck, and a walking speed that is 30% faster than the previous model. Currently, two Optimus robots are already working autonomously in Tesla’s factories.

This showcases the practical applications and advancements of Tesla’s robotics technology, which will be a significant focus at the event. However, Musk’s speech at the conference comes at a time when the European Union is introducing preliminary tariffs on electric vehicle (EV) imports from China.

As the leading exporter of EVs from China to Europe, Tesla is now subject to an additional 21% tariff. The company has appealed to the Commission for a different, possibly lower, duty rate. Nevertheless, with Elon Musk at the World AI Conference and Tesla’s cutting-edge exhibits, the conference in Shanghai is set to be an exciting and eagerly awaited event.
