Jamal Musiala has expressed sadness over hosts Germany’s elimination at this year’s European Championship on Friday.

Musiala was in action for Germany but could not inspire them to win, as they lost 2-1 to Spain after extra-time.

Reflecting on the painful exit, Musiala wrote on his X handle:”It hurts so much to be eliminated like this. We gave it our all and are grateful for your outstanding support.

“Thank you for your sensational support during the tournament. I hope we were able to give you something back! We will get up and come back stronger!”

Dani Olmo gave Spain the lead in the 51st minute, slotting home Lamine Yamal’s low cross.

With one minute left Florian Wirtz drew Germany level before Mikel Merino scored the winner on 119 minutes.

Spain will now face France in the semi-finals after the latter edged Portugal 5-3 on penalty shootout after regulation time ended goalless.
