Aston Villa have wasted no time in bolstering Unai Emery’s squad as they prepare for a return to Europe’s elite next season.

Ross Barkley is the latest player to arrive at Villa Park as he completed a return to the Midlands on Monday.

The Englishman follows Ian Maatsen, Samuel Iling-Junior, Enzo Barrenechea and Lewis Dobbin through the door at Aston Villa.

The flurry of arrivals has somewhat softened the blow of losing key man Douglas Luiz, who headed to Juventus with Villa attempting to stay on the right side of Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR).

Despite a busy start to the summer transfer window, former Villa skipper Gabriel Agbonlahor wants to see the club attempt to snap up a current Premier League star for a cut price.

Agbonlahor would take Conor Gallagher at Villa

Villa have already addressed several key areas of the squad but continue to be linked with Conor Gallagher.

The Englishman has entered the final year of his contract at Chelsea and the Villains have been labelled as likely to move for him.

Agbonlahor would certainly support the move and when asked if he would have Gallagher at Villa, he suggested his former club should try to sign the Blues star for a reduced fee.

“I will take him, yeah, I will take him. Cut price, of course, yeah,” Agbonlahor told talkSPORT [02/07, 9:40 am].

Where Gallagher would fit in at Villa

Despite losing Luiz, Emery now has a host of options to choose from in the middle of the park.

The arrivals of Barrenechea and Barkley have further bolstered Emery’s options, adding to the likes of Jacob Ramsey, John McGinn, Youri Tielemans and Boubacar Kamara

You’d imagine that Villa would have to offload at least one or two in midfield before considering a move for Gallagher.

Ramsey has been linked with a switch to Tottenham but it would make little sense for Villa to offload their academy product to bring in the £50 million-rated Gallagher.
