Apple TV+ tops Paramount+ in US market share but just barely. The two are duking it out for sixth and seventh place, according to data from JustWatch, and have a long way to go to number one.

Despite its smaller catalog, Apple TV+ has topped Paramount+ in the US streaming market.

Apple TV+ has shown consistent growth, gaining 1% in the second quarter of 2024, just as it did in the first quarter, according to data from JustWatch, as reported by 9to5Mac.

It's a narrow victory; Apple TV+ and Paramount+ now have about 9% of the market, putting Apple TV+ in sixth place, while Prime Video is at number one with 22%. However, it's a tight race at the top with Amazon's streaming service barely beating out Netflix at number two, JustWatch tells 9to5Mac. Here's the current rankings:

  1. Amazon Prime Video: 22%
  2. Netflix: 22%
  3. Max: 14%
  4. Disney+: 11%
  5. Hulu: 10%
  6. Apple TV+: 9%
  7. Paramount +: 9%
  8. Others: 3%

Apple signaled its commitment to Apple TV+ at WWDC with announcements of new seasons for hit shows like Severance, Silo, and Pachinko. Since its 2019 launch, Apple TV+ has garnered several awards, including a Best Picture Oscar in 2022 for Coda and multiple Emmys for Ted Lasso. It's also jumped into sports with Major League Soccer streaming.

An increase in content, however, resulted in a significant price jump last year from from $6.99 to $9.99 per month.
