Families Mourn Losses in Gen Z Protest, Call for Compensation

Families continue to mourn their loved ones who were killed during the Anti Finance Bill 2024 peaceful Gen z protests as others arrive at the Nairobi city Morgue to collect their remains in preparation for final send off .

The bereaved families now plead with the government to help them pay for the burial expenses as well as some  compensation to the deceased families .

Barasa Family Speaks

According to Zechariah Barasa, a resident in Nairobi ,claims that some of the victims who died during the protest were not protesters but people who who lost their lives while doing their normal day to day life activities.

“I would love to urge the government to take responsibility of burial expenses of victims who were killed during a national protest and compensate their families for some were innocently killed during the protest yet were not part of the protesters,” Zechariah Barasa said.

More than 30 people were killed during the protest as hundreds continue to receive treatment in various hospitals.

On Tuesday ,at least 24 anti-finance protesters were admitted to Kitengela Sub-county Hospital with bullets lodged in their bodies .

Infiltration of Goons


Unlike the previous protest, goons suspected to be ferried from elsewhere disrupted the peaceful peaceful demonstrations by looting and causing tension as well as distractions of properties.

Kenyans across the social media platforms condemned and warned goons who were taking advantage of the anti-finance protest organized by the Gen Z to cause distractions and destroy properties of business people .

The anti-finance peaceful protest was organized on X platforms and grew into a physical protest on June 18th last month .

The protest was led by predominantly young young human activists who presented their grievances on social media platforms such as X Space formerly known as twitter and Tiktok.

The protest spread nationwide afterwards forcing top celebrities to join the movement due to the pressure from their fans .

Despite President  William Ruto conceding defeat and withdrawing the finance bill 2024,Gen Zs still went ahead to protest on the streets as a way of paying tribute to the heroes and heroins who died during the protest .
