Dexter Original Sin Prequel Explores Dexter’s Early Years
Patrick Dempsey sheds the scrubs from Grey’s Anatomy to don the uniform of Aaron Spencer, the Captain of the Miami Metro Homicide in the upcoming Dexter: Original Sin. Engaging audiences with his seasoned performance, he shares a significant backstory with Christian Slater’s Harry Morgan.
The prequel series, currently in production in Miami, features a notable cast including Patrick Gibson as Dexter Morgan, Molly Brown as Debra Morgan, James Martinez as Angel Batista, Christina Milian as Maria LaGuerta, Alex Shimizu as Vince Masuka, and Reno Wilson as Bobby Watt. This stellar lineup brings a fresh dynamic while paying homage to the original characters portrayed by David Zayas, Lauren Vélez, and C. S. Lee.
Set in 1991, 15 years before the events of Dexter, this series delves into an intriguing new chapter of Dexter’s life. The story showcases how young Dexter (played by Patrick Gibson) is molded by his adoptive father Harry (Christian Slater) to channel his dark impulses constructively.
As per the official logline, this journey documents young Dexter’s transition from student to an avenging serial killer. The challenge lies in learning to balance his urges against the societal norms enforced by law enforcement. With Harry’s guidance, Dexter adopts a Code allowing him to target those deserving of justice without raising suspicions during his forensics internship at Miami Metro Police Department.
James Martinez will embody Angel Batista in this new endeavor. Meanwhile, Alex Shimizu takes on the role of Vince Masuka. Shimizu, known for his roles in Coming To America
and Orville
, is set to bring depth to Masuka’s character.
Producing Original Sin are Showtime Studios and Counterpart Studios. Clyde Phillips returns as showrunner and executive producer alongside Scott Reynolds, Michael C. Hall (original Dexter), Mary Leah Sutton, Tony Hernandez, Lilly Burns, Robert Lloyd Lewis, and directing executive producer Michael Lehmann.
