Izzy Christiansen has suggested that one Chelsea star may have been a completely different player had he actually signed for Arsenal and got the chance to work under Mikel Arteta.

Mauricio Pochettino‘s side were given a painful reminder of just how far his Chelsea side are from challenging for the title in the Premier League.

The Blues were torn apart in the second-half as they were beaten 5-0 by the Gunners.

In truth, there were barely any positives to take from the game from a Chelsea perspective. Any hopes of banishing the idea that they are the Cole Palmer team were well and truly quashed.

Mykhailo Mudryk must rue not securing Arsenal move

And once again, it proved to be another tough night for Mykhailo Mudryk.

The 23-year-old completed just 14 of his 22 passes, according to Whoscored. No-one in the starting lineup completed fewer. And he was one of the first players brought off by Mauricio Pochettino at the Emirates.

Of course, in another world, Mudryk may have ended up calling the Emirates home. For much of the build-up to the 2023 January transfer window, it appeared that Mudryk would be joining Arsenal.

Arsenal thought that they would be signing Mudryk. However, he ended up signing for Chelsea in an £88 million deal.

And speaking on BBC Radio Five Live, Izzy Christiansen believes that the winger’s future could have been so different had he got the move to Arsenal.

“The disparity between the two teams, and I’m watching the TV coverage, it’s that man Mikel Arteta. The way that he coaches,” she said.

“Can you just imagine perhaps what Mudryk would have been if he’d been under Arteta’s wing on that training pitch and the way that he would have coached him into what all see these glimpses with Mudryk, but he just doesn’t do it consistently enough for whatever reason.”

Story between Chelsea star and Mikel Arteta may not be over based on previous signings

Mudryk has definitely struggled with the weight of expectation at Stamford Bridge. He has scored just six goals and contributed four assists in more than 50 games for Chelsea.

It looks bizarre that Chelsea spent so much on the wide-man.

Interestingly, Arteta reportedly remains convinced of Mudryk’s talent. So it will be very interesting to see if we have actually seen the last of the links between him and Arsenal.

The Gunners have purchased both Jorginho and Kai Havertz from Chelsea in the last 18 months. And the pair have proved to be brilliant signings.

So perhaps Arsenal may sense an opportunity if he continues to struggle at Chelsea.
