MARSHALL — Finishing the 2023-24 athletic season with a NCAA Division III Softball National Championship, East Texas Baptist University recorded their best finish in program history in the LEARFIELD Director’s Cup at 93rd. ETBU had the second most points in the American Southwest Conference and was the third best program in Texas for NCAA Division III.

ETBU earned 214 points 164 points in the spring and 50 points in the fall for 214 points. The softball program was given 100 points for winning the national championship and baseball 64 points for ninth place. The volleyball team earned 50 points for their NCAA Tournament win in the fall.

The 214 points tops 170.5 points from last year for 103rd place. ETBU came in ahead of ASC members Hardin-Simmons, McMurry, Concordia Texas, LeTourneau and Mary Hardin-Baylor. Texas Dallas was 80th with 242 points and Trinity University had the most points for a Texas program with 594 points in 22nd place.

ETBU went to three NCAA Tournaments this year in volleyball, softball, and baseball. ASC Tournament Championships were won in volleyball and softball with regular season championships won by both those programs and baseball. Baseball also won the NCAA Regional Championship.
