Seven Injured After Collapse Of Two-Storey Building In Lagos

No fewer than seven people on Wednesday sustained injuries after a newly completed two-storey building collapsed in the Mushin area of Lagos State.

The incident happened at No. 12, Cameroun Street,during a heavy rainfall.

The victims, who were rescued from the rubbles, are three females and four males.

They were taken to Isolo General hospital for medical attention.

Confirming the incident, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) said the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA) had marked the building for structural testing.

“The incident occurred during the heavy rainfall that the State experienced today. Seven persons were trapped and rescued alive; three female and 4 male, two people had minor injuries while five sustained serious injuries and were taken to nearby hospitals,” NEMA said in a statement.

“The collapsed building partially affected a nearby bungalow.

“The collapsed building and the affected adjoining building had earlier been marked for structural testing by LASBCA.”

The Permanent Secretary of the Lagos Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu also confirmed the incident.

He attributed the cause of the collapse to the use of substandard materials in the construction.

THE WHISTLER earlier reported that different areas in Lagos experienced flash flood due to heavy rainfall.

Areas such as Eredo, Bojije, Epe, Sangotedo, Ibeju-Lekki, Awoyaya, Labora, and Abijon were heavily affected .
