As part of measures to reduce the impact of the current economic hardships on Nigerians, the federal government has handed over food items to the Oyo state government to be distributed to vulnerable citizens across the state.

The items were handed over by the National Emergency Management Agency to the state Emergency Management Agency in Ibadan, the Oyo state capital.

Concerned about the current economic hardship faced by Nigerians, President Bola Tinubu has approved the release of 42,000 metric tonnes of food commodities from the National Strategic Reserve.

The commodities, which include maize, millet, sorghum, and garri, are under the custody of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security.

During the handing over ceremony, the representative of the Director-General of NEMA, Stephen Adewale, wants the state government to ensure equal distribution of the food items across all local governments in the state.

Shortly after, the Oyo State Deputy Governor flagged off the distribution of the commodities and assured residents of improved security to carry out their agricultural activities.

With the distribution of these essential food commodities, relief is expected to reach the most vulnerable populations in Oyo State, alleviating the economic hardship and food insecurity faced by many.
