Felon Arrested For Ditching Gun In Walmart Bathroom After Shoplifting Spree
Miami, FL - A Miami felon has been arrested after allegedly hiding a gun in a Walmart restroom trash can during a shoplifting incident.
According to police, officers responded to reports of a theft involving several individuals at the Walmart located at 21151 S. Dixie Highway in Miami.
Authorities say the description of a suspect matched Kenneth Cross, who was spotted wearing a white and yellow long-sleeved shirt with gray pants and possibly armed with a gun.
Upon arrival, officers were informed by security that Cross had already been detained.
Security personnel informed officers that they observed Cross taking a gun from another suspected shoplifter and placing it under his arm.
Reports state that upon seeing an officer, Cross entered a restroom, and as a security officer followed, he heard a metallic sound from inside.
The officer located Cross in the restroom and took him into custody without incident.
A subsequent search of the restroom trash can uncovered a Springfield XD black .40 caliber semi-automatic pistol.
Walmart surveillance footage corroborated the witness accounts.
A background check revealed Cross is a convicted felon.
He was arrested on charges of possessing a firearm as a convicted felon, tampering with physical evidence, and openly carrying a weapon.
Cross is being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on a $2,650 bond.
