Muslims the world over have welcomed the New Islamic Year, Hijirah 1446 AH.

The new year is usually celebrated with fasting, special prayers and charity and for the faithful, it’s a time for reflection and renewal.

Senior Correspondent, Adedoja Salam- Adeniyi visits Oworoshoki where members of Lutfullahi International held their New Year prayer.

Muharram is the first month of the Islamic calendar.

It marks the beginning of the new Islamic year.

It is considered a sacred month in Islam.

During Muharram, many Muslims fast, pray, and engage in charitable acts, seeking forgiveness and spiritual growth.

In his new year message, SheiK Rabiu Adebayo calls for unity, peace and renewal.

The tenth day of Muharram, known as Ashura, is an important day of fasting and reflection.

Hijra means “migration”, It refers to the movement of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and some of his followers from Mecca to Medina in 622 CE.

This period officially marks the beginning of the Islamic calendar.
