Final defendant sentenced in Osage Nation citizen's murder and kidnapping case

TULSA, OKLA (KTUL) — The last defendant in the case of the kidnapping and murder of Jolene Walker Campbell, an Osage Nation citizen, was sentenced.

Tre Robert Allen Ackerson, 30, of Webb City, Missouri was sentenced to 50 years of imprisonment with five years of supervised release for second-degree murder.

According to court documents, Campbell was kidnapped and murdered by Ackerson and several others in July 2020.

Campbell's body was found in a field in Mayes County, and an investigation showed that she was robbed and kidnapped in Missouri, then taken to Oklahoma.

“I hope the family of Ms. Campbell can find some sort of healing knowing the person who murdered their loved one will likely die behind bars,” said U.S. Attorney Clint Johnson. “The Justice Department will continue its relentless efforts to seek justice on behalf of missing and murdered Indigenous people.”

Witnesses to the crime were assaulted in multiple ways including, being kidnapped, restrained with zip-ties, blindfolded or having their eyes duct taped shut, being shot at, and being beaten, to prevent them from testifying.

The following is a list of the additional defendants sentenced in this case:

  • Sarah Michelle Humbard, of Joplin, Missouri, was sentenced to a five-year probation in Oct 2023 for tampering with a witness, victim, and informant by using the threat of physical force.
  • Chloe Louise Stith, of Carthage, Missouri, was sentenced to seven years of imprisonment with five years supervised release in Nov 2023 for tampering with a witness, victim, and informant by using the threat of physical force.
  • Breanna Lynn Sloan, of Joplin, Missouri, was sentenced to 20 years imprisonment with five years supervised release in Jan 2024 for kidnapping resulting in death.
  • David William Morris, of Joplin, Missouri, was sentenced to five years imprisonment with three years supervised release in Nov 2023 for tampering with a witness, victim, and informant by using the threat of physical force.
  • Morgan Lee Bowman, of Joplin, Missouri, was sentenced to three years imprisonment with five years of supervised release in March 2024 for tampering with a witness, victim, and informant by using the threat of physical force.
  • Megan Louise Detherage, of Joplin, Missouri, was sentenced to time served with one year of supervised release in March 2024 for misprision of a felony.
  • Jacob Ryan Scribner, of Joplin, Missouri, was sentenced to four years imprisonment with two years supervised release in April 2024 for conspiracy to retaliate against a witness, victim, and informant.
  • Lane Ryan Bronson, of Joplin, Missouri, was sentenced to 19 years imprisonment with five years supervised release in March 2024 for tampering with a witness, victim, and informant by using the threat of physical force.

The investigation was conducted by the FBI, Mayes County Sheriff’s Office, Muscogee Nation Lighthorse Police Department, and the Joplin Police Department.
