FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — A Fayetteville man has pleaded not guilty to capital murder for the shooting death of 48-year-old Weston Miller, according to court documents filed on July 2.

Hugh Kane's trial is set for Dec. 9, 2024.

The Washington County Sheriff's Office (WCSO) said on May 26 at around 8:13 p.m., deputies responded to an address on Oakland Zion Road about a call reporting a shooting, outside of Fayetteville city limits.

A preliminary report says that the 911 call came from a woman who claimed her friend, Kane, shot a man who was found dead at the scene.

The woman reported to police that Kane claimed Miller had been threatening him. Kane told the woman that Miller "came at him," according to the report.

Kane was detained and later transported to a nearby hospital for chest pains. The report says that during an interview with police, he admitted to the shooting, claiming that Miller threatened to physically attack him.

The report says that Kane had a previous felony conviction and was not allowed to have a firearm.

Kane was booked into the Washington County Detention Center on May 27 for charges of capital murder and firearm possession. He is being held on a $750,000 bond.
