PITTSBURGH —

On Sunday, 4 The Record spoke with experts to help get Pittsburghers ready for a busy Fourth of July holiday travel period.

Host Kristen Powers spoke with Ian Petrulli, vice president of Holiday Travel International & Complete Travel Service, who offered some advice to travelers.

“Be patient. Be flexible. Call your travel agent,” said Petrulli.

Packing your patience seems to be good advice, based on what 4 The Record’s Ryan Recker learned from Bryan Dietz of the Allegheny County Airport Authority.

“It's going to be busy,” said Dietz. “We are above our pre-pandemic levels for air travel, and a lot of that is because of some of the new routes that have started.”

Meanwhile, 4 The Record’s Elena LaQuatra spoke with Jim Garrity, director of public affairs for AAA East Central, about what people can expect if they are driving to their holiday destination.

“In general, the word is more,” said Garrity.

Garrity later added, “I think what we're seeing is now, a couple of years out of the lockdowns, the pent-up demand has let itself loose and everyone's really enjoying getting back out.”
