Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers says the club are planning to bring players in before they embark on the upcoming USA pre-season tour.

The Bhoys have yet to make a signing in the current transfer window, leaving some fans worried that this period will end up as frustrating as the underwhelming 2023 window.

However, the Celtic boss has urged patience when it comes to getting deals over the line. He wants the right quality of player in and isn’t going to settle for less just to boost numbers in this early part of pre-season.

Rodgers remains excited about what is ahead and is hoping to work things out with other clubs before the Bhoys head off to play DC United, Manchester City and Chelsea at the end of July.

Speaking after a 1-1 draw with Ayr United on Friday night, the Celtic boss was calm and measured with his comments.

Brendan Rodgers on Celtic transfer business

He said [Scottish Sun]: “Of course, we would want to get them in sooner rather than later. But it’s a two-way thing so hopefully we can get them done in the coming weeks.

“Would we like to get some in before America? That’s the plan. I think every manager would like them in on the first day but what’s most important is the players we want are targeted.

“We know what we want to bring in to improve the squad and I’m sure over the coming weeks we’ll conclude the deals and get us stronger for next season.

“We could have had nine players in by now if we wanted but it’s all about the right players. There’s no point in us doing anything other than that, and sometimes that takes a little bit of patience.

“In the world nowadays, where everything’s immediate, everyone thinks you can do it straight away but it’s not always the case. There’s always a collaboration between ourselves and another club to get the players that we want.

“But I’m very hopeful that come the end of the window, we’ll have a really strong squad and be ready and prepared for an exciting season.”

Positions of most need at Celtic

Getting a goalkeeper in will be the top priority for the club. Joe Hart’s retirement has left a big hole in the team and the squad that needs to be filled quickly. Negotiations are said to be ongoing for Sparta Prague shot-stopper Peter Vindahl Jensen.

A left-back is also needed to challenge Greg Taylor’s position while more depth could be added to midfield too.

If Celtic are serious about showing ambition then a new, quality defender to partner Cameron Carter-Vickers would be welcome, too.

With reports swirling around Adam Idah as well, we do know that the Bhoys are working on transfers – it’s now about getting them over the line with plenty of time for pre-season preparation.
