A hilarious TikTok video surfaced, showing a Yoruba actress making a dramatic exit from a movie set when asked to step into a deeper part of a river.
Following the recent tragic incident involving Junior Pope and others at sea, Nigerian actors and actresses seem to be increasingly wary of water-related movie roles. The comical video making rounds online captured an actress refusing to take a scene in a supposed Yoruba movie that required her to step into a river.
The clip, clearly from a Yoruba movie given the language used, began with the actress being asked to step into the river for a scene. Dressed in traditional Yoruba attire, she initially complied. However, things took a funny turn when the director instructed her to move into the deeper part of the river.
Refusing outright, she adamantly stated that she couldn't go deeper into the river for any reason. This led to a hilarious exchange between her and the director and camera crew, with both parties passionately expressing their views amidst yelling and uproar between her and the director/camera crew. The director yelled at her and she returned the favour, yelling back.
Read the dialogue as interpreted:
Director: Move further down, further than.
Actress: Move further? Further in that part of the water? For what?
Director: Were you not paid? My friend, move further into the river!
Actress: Leave me alone! Are you crazy?
It was at this point that she untied her wrapper, threw it at the director and said, "Take your useless cloth! I should step into the water? I will not."
The director queried: "Didn't you read the script before coming?"
She didn't answer but walked off the set with only her under-tight and buba, saying "please leave the road for I am done."
As she walked off, the directors and people behind the camera argued and hurled insults at her.
