Manchester United on track to complete remarkable triple swoop in ‘coming days’

Manchester United’s transfer window is about to kick into a higher gear with Copa America and Euros nearing completion.

The players’ international commitments dictate that they don’t prefer to be the subject of intense speculation as they dedicate their time and attention to the international fixtures.

However, with both tournaments ending, the groundwork that United have laid in the meantime could be about to pay off in grand fashion, just in time for the squad to start pre-season proper.

Man United could complete triple swoop

United have functioned differently in this transfer window in the sense that there is a semblance of planning and direction to their approach.

Aimless transfer chases and last-minute panic buying can be avoided by getting their priority business done early and that is what the club is on track to do.

Journalist Christopher Michel reports that they are on track to complete an audacious triple swoop in the ‘coming days’, the first part of which is a mere formality.

Joshua Zirkzee has undergone his medical at United so it’s just a matter of waiting for the official announcement but the deal looks done.

The second domino to fall is Matthijs de Ligt. Michel reports that the personal agreement and everything around is a done deal. Just the structure of payment to Bayern Munich remains to be decided but it’s a matter of when, and not if, that deal goes through.

The final part of the swoop is Manuel Ugarte, the deal for whom should pick up pace now that Uruguay’s involvement in Copa America is done. Negotiations with Paris Saint-Germain should begin in earnest while personal terms are not expected to be a problem there either.

United’s ability to structure payment over a period of time instead of all upfront will also allow them the flexibility to spend more, as they have also started selling well.

A statement of intent

If United manage to secure all three by the time the squad leaves for the pre-season tour of the USA, it would cement the best transfer window by the club after Sir Alex Ferguson’s departure as manager.

Ineos managing to achieve that while the executive structure is still getting to grips with the new surroundings would be a huge statement of intent by the new regime.

The building blocks put in place to streamline the operations make it sure that things will only go up from here. Of course, it is impossible to eliminate mistakes completely from an operation of this scale but proper planning will minimise it.

Mix it with grand ambition, and United will finally have a recipe to get back on their perch.
