There is still a chance Liverpool could sign a highly-rated Premier League star this summer transfer window.

A new era has begun on Merseyside as Arne Slot takes over the reigns at Anfield following Jurgen Klopp’s departure.

The Reds will be in the market for reinforcement as they look to assemble a squad that aligns with Slot’s vision and style of play.

With that said, there is still a chance Liverpool could sign one of his rumoured targets.

Liverpool could still sign Newcastle United winger Anthony Gordon

Daily Mail journalist Sami Mokbel, speaking on the podcast, noted that transfer talk has been rife among the England camp and suggested that Anthony Gordon, labelled as ‘one of the best players in the Premier League’ (GOAL), may have been the subject of it over the last week.

“There’s stuff going on, players are openly speaking about where they are going, who is interested, whether they will sign a new contract, whether they won’t sign a new contract as their release clause is too high for them,” Mokbel said.

“It all gets discussed, it’s open season for that… the players are caught up in that drama, they love it and love speaking about it.”

The journalist added: “(Anthony) Gordon wants to join Liverpool and I don’t think a deal in completely dead … (but) Newcastle are confident they have recouped enough money to avoid a points deduction.”

Newcastle confident Anthony Gordon will stay

Now that Newcastle have seemingly avoided a points deduction, there won’t be any desire to sell any of their top-rated assets.

TBR exclusively reported in May that Newcastle laughed off the idea that Gordon would join Liverpool this summer, so they always remained adamant in their stance that he was not for sale.

Mokbel believes there is still a chance Liverpool could revive talks for Gordon but it’d likely take an eye-watering amount of cash to strike a deal, perhaps around the £100m mark.
