Imo State House of Assembly on Tuesday suspended four lawmakers for allegedly plotting the removal of the Speaker, Chike Olemgbe.

The lawmakers affected are the member representing Ahiazu-Mbaise constituency, Samuel Otuibe; Ezinihitte-Mbaise constituency, Henry Agbasonu; Okigwe constituency, Chidiebere Ogbunikpa, and Oru-West state constituency, Dominic Ezerioha.

Their suspension was announced by the speaker on Tuesday during a 20 minutes plenary, noting that the decision was taken during an executive session of the house.

The Speaker said the suspended members had been associated with misconduct in many public fora and were conniving to impeach him.

He claimed that the move is not only capable of derailing the House but also destabilising and distracting the leadership of the Imo State House of Assembly under his watch.

The speaker declared that the affected lawmakers have also been removed from all the committees headed by them.

Following the announcement of the suspended members, the speaker further directed that Hon Obinna Egu of Ngor Okpala State Constituency should take over the responsibilities of Hon Agbasonu as Education Committee Chairman, while the member for Orlu State Constituency Hon Ikenna Ihezuo would replace Hon Dominic Ezerioha as Spokesman and Chairman on Judiciary.
