Immediate past vice president, Professor Yemi Osinbajo has ascribe the greatness of the African continent in the ability of its leaders and governments to speak with one voice.

Osinbajo, who is also the Global Advisor of  the Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet, GEAPP, made this known at the Carnegie Africa Forum in Washington D.C, U.S.A.

The former vice president hammered on the importance of African governments and leaders in coming together to implement forward thinking policies that stimulate economic growth and social progress.

He said, “I think that really the legacy of extraction has at least taught us one thing, which is that we cannot but function together.

“Africa simply has to speak more and more with one voice and the truth is that is difficult, but not impossible.

“It’s critical to the global transition. So coming back to renewable energy, not only is Africa advantaged and Nigeria advantaged, not only in terms of solar power in particular, but also it makes economic sense to invest in solar power, not just locally, but also internationally.

“So, for example, look at bauxite. Just the whole business of processing bauxite to aluminium, assuming we were using only renewable energy, will save the world 1% of global emissions.

“Africa has the opportunity and has the potential to become perhaps the first truly green industrial civilization if the right investments are put in Africa today.”
