A security guard who died at a Scots supermarket has been named by police after a woman was charged with culpable homicide. Alun Harris-Richards passed away after emergency crews were called to Asda superstore in Westway Retail Park in Arbroath at 7.25pm on Sunday.

Ambulance crews had received reports a man was unresponsive in the shop. Despite the best efforts of medics, 61-year-old Alun was pronounced dead at the scene. His heartbroken family have now released a touching tribute, issued through Police Scotland.

They said: “Alun was a much-loved husband, father, and bampy and will be missed by all his family and everyone who knew him. Thank you to the emergency services and all those who assisted. We would like to ask for privacy at what is a very difficult time as we come to terms with our sudden loss.”

The family has asked for privacy. Earlier today we told how Natasha Smith, of Arbroath, appeared at Forfar Sheriff Court on Tuesday charged in connection with culpable homicide.

The 37-year-old was also charged with theft and two counts of assaulting a retail worker. She made no plea or declaration. Smith was remanded in custody while the case was submitted for further examination.

She is due to reappear in court within the next eight days. Meanwhile, members of the local community in Angus said they were left shocked by the worker's death.

Former colleague Suzanne Richardson said: "So sad. I worked with him for many years. Rest in peace."

Margaret Watt said: "Poor man. My thoughts are with his family."

A Police Scotland statement reads: "At around 7.25pm on Sunday, June police were called to a report of an unresponsive man within a retail park at Westway Retail Park in Arbroath, Angus. Emergency services attended and a man, 61, was pronounced dead at the scene.
