Imo Assembly Passes Vote Of Implicit Confidence On The Leadership

Leveraging on the commendations from a cross section of the people of Imo State, including those in the Executive Arm of Government, on the quality of Bills and Motions passed by the 10th Imo State House of Assembly during the recently celebrated one year anniversary of the said 10th House, a vote of implicit confidence was passed on the leadership of the House during plenary before the weekend. 

This was as a result of the Motion Of Urgent State Importance Chiefly Sponsored by the Member Representing Isu State Constituency, Hon Barrister Emeka Kingsley Ozurumba, who expressed satisfaction with the quality of leadership in place in the Assembly.

According to Hon Emeka Ozurumba, in his Motion, the 10th House was inaugurated on the 16th of June 2023 and presiding officers, being the Speaker and Deputy Speaker, elected on same day, as provided by the House Rule. He further noted that subsequently, other cadres of Principal Officers were appointed by their various parties and party caucuses to aid the Presiding Officers carry out their functions of running the House of Assembly effectively.

In his words, Hon Ozurumba, who is the House Committee Chairman On Labour/Productivity, Civil Service And Pension,  said, “The 10th House has done very well. If you look at the organization of the leadership, capacity, maturity and welfare of Staff, the number of Bills and Motions passed, including the cordial relationship between the legislative Arm and the Executive,  we have to thank God and we have to appreciate and congratulate the leadership. In one year, we sponsored and passed over 64 Motions, 18 Bills and did our oversight with confidence”.

Hon Ozurumba also observed that the great achievements of His Excellency Governor Hope Uzodimma could be attributed to the good working relationship between the Executive and the Legislative Arm. He therefore called for the sustenance of the relationship, so as to continue with the romance,  for the overall interest  and benefits of Imo people.

The Motion of urgent State importance which was seconded by Hon Barrister Chisom Ojukwu, Member Representing Nkwerre State Constituency, was supported by the following 11 lawmakers, who made substantial contributions :

1. Hon Prince Obinna Egu.

2. Hon Ikenna Ihezue.

3. Hon Bernard Ozoemenam.

4. Hon Kelechi Ofurum.

5. Hon Clinton Amadi.

6. Hon Johnson Duru.

7. Hon Ozioma Worship Ebonine.

8. Hon Chisom Ojukwu.

9. Hon Innocent Ikpamezie.

10. Hon Okechukwu Udeze.

11. Hon Gilbert Nwosu.

In their submissions, they commended the House leadership, with Rt Hon Chike Olemgbe as Speaker, Rt Hon Amara Chyna Iwuanyanwu as Deputy Speaker, Hon Kanayo Onyemaechi as Majority leader, Hon Chigozie Nwaneri as Chief Whip, Hon Princewill Ugochukwu Amuchie as Minority leader, Hon Clinton Amadi as Deputy Minority leader and Hon Hon Kelechi Ofurum as Deputy Chief Whip. Also, the Honourable Members commended the Clerk And Head Of Legislative Services, Chinelo Adaora Emeghara Esq, and the Management Staff for their zeal and dedication to duty in the last one year. They said the performance of any government is directly proportional to the relationship with the legislature, and that having done well in the last one year, there was no need effecting leadership change, arguing that the stability of the House is the stability of the whole state and her people.

When the Speaker of Imo State House Of Assembly, Represented by the Deputy Speaker, Rt Hon Amara Chyna Iwuanyanwu, who presided, put it to vote, it was adopted. Thereafter, he Ruled as follows :

* Be It Resolved By This Honourable House To Pass A Vote Of Implicit Confidence On The Leadership Of The Imo State House Of Assembly For Their Dedication To Duty And Leadership Capabilities.

The Clerk was thereafter directed to communicate the Resolution of the House to everyone concerned.
