Samet Akaydin headed Turkey into a halftime lead in a frantic Euro 2024 quarterfinal against the Netherlandsl in Berlin.

Vincenzo Montella’s side had been appointment viewing with their high-octane style at this tournament and a composed Dutch start began to unravel under white-hot Turkish pressure.

Their threat on the break is only matched by their setpiece acumen and when a 35th-minute corner cleared the box, Real Madrid youngster Arda Guler set in a beautiful cross with his weaker right foot for Akaydin to head home.

The winners will face England in Dortmund on Wednesday.

The Sporting News is following Netherlands vs. Turkey live, providing score updates, commentary and highlights as they happen.

Netherlands vs. Turkey live updates, highlights from Euro 2024

76 minsGOOOOOOAAAAAAALLLLLLLLL!!!!! Cody Gakpo!!!!

They've turned it around with two goals in six minutes. Turkey are crestfallen. Dumnfries' low cross squirms all the way across goal where Gakpo bundles it in. It's a ugly goal but he won't care one bit.

75 mins: Memphis barrelling into the Turkey box. It's scrambled behind and the short corner doesn't come to anything this time.

72 mins: Double change for the Dutch as Van de Ven and Veerman replace Ake and Reijnders.

70 minsGOOOOOOAAAAAAALLLLLLL!!!!!! Stefan De Vrij

The Netherlands work a nice short corner, Turkey go to sleep and De Vrij powers home from Memphis's cross.

70 mins: Ohhh, Weghorst should do better. Gakpo swipes at an overhead attempt, Turkey all over the place in their box. Now a deflected cross flies towards Weghorst and he can't make a clean contact. It is a corner, though.

66 mins: Inventive short-corner routine from Calhanoglu and Guler but there's an offside in there. That's probably the end of Turkey's latest burst but they put Koeman's side through the ringer there.

65 mins: Free-kick is only partially cleared,Yildiz drills one, brilliant save from Verbruggen and a prone Weghorst clears behind under pressure.

63 mins: Turkey have just managed to scramble out of some nonsense in their own area but here's Yilmaz tearing down the right flank. Van Dijk has to foul him and he joins Ake in the book. Calhanoglu over the free-kick.

57 mins: Depay drives at the backpedalling Dutch defence and fires a shot too close to Gunok. It feels a like a big goal is around the corner right now.

56 minsGULER HITS THE POST! The Madrid star flashes a low strike around the wall and hit bounces before hitting the outside of the left upright.

55 mins: Yilmaz flicks on and Ake is in trouble with Guler goal side. He brings him down and the distance from goal and presence of other defenders nearby means it's a yellow.

54 mins: Ooohhh, that's a much better ball from Gakpo. Weghorst can't connect and he wants a corner. Understandably so because Akaydin glanced out behind.

53 mins: Gakpo gets down the outside and crosses. It comes to nought but the Weghorst-bolstered Netherlands are giving Turkey plenty to consider.

52 mins: Ake flings a ball across the box and Weghorst makes his presence felt, heading back across goal. Memphis can't finish and the flag is up in any case.

Kickoff: 2nd Half

Wer're back underway and Weghorst is on for the Netherlands to try to further embellish his cult-hero status. Bergwijn the man to make way.

Halftime

Turkey are 45 minutes away from emulating their Euro 2008 run to the semifinals. The Netherlands started in controlled fashion but Vincenzo Montella's side swarmed through the gears as they do and the Dutch were feeling the head before Akaydin found the breakthrough. They might have to go to the well like they did against Austria in the previous round but you sense this team won't mind that one bit.

45 mins: Two added minutes. You'd think Turkey might try to slow the pace down and take the sting out to reach the interval but I'm not sure they have those gears.

40 mins: Memphis looking to fashion response as Turkey scramble back but Gakpo has ventured offside.

35 minsGOOOOOAAALLLLLLL!!!!!! Samet Akaydin!!!!!!

Turkey lead and it has been coming. Guler retrieves the over-hit corner from the left. He can't cross on his favourite left foot put sends over a pearler with his right and Akaydin heads home!

28 mins: Half chance for Turkey as  Hakan Calhanoglu floats a free kick into the Netherlands box but an off balance Abdulkerim Bardakci hooks over.

First booking of the night as Xavi Simons catches Mert Muldur.

22 mins: Nothing to split the teams after a quarter of the game played with Guler and Gakpo on the fringes so far.

18 mins: Baris Alper Yilmaz does well to gain some territory for Turkey, as he chases a lost cause, and wins a corner.

14 mins: Turkey are slowly nudging themselves into the contest now as Salih Ozcan lashing one over the top of the Dutch goal.

8 mins: Bright start from Koeman's Netherlands in this high-stakes clash with Memphis Depay blazing over the bar from Cody Gakpo's lay off after just three minutes.

Gakpo then drags an effort off target - and based on his high standards at the tournament, he might have expected to do better.

However, they are without without midfielders Orkun Kokcu and Ismail Yuksek, through suspension

Centre back Merih Demiral is also absent as serves a two-game ban for his "wolf" celebration against Austria in the Round of 16.

Turkey starting lineup (4-2-3-1): Gunok (GK) — Muldur, Akaydin, Bardakci, Kadioglu — Ayhan, Ozcan — Guler, Calhanoglu, Yildiz — Yilmaz.
