Mikel Arteta eyes winning all 38 league games next term as Arsenal aim to go one better in title race

Arsenal have missed out on the Premier League title in each of the last two seasons to Manchester City, and they plan to finally go one better next season and win it for the first time since 2004.

The Gunners lost the title to Man City by two points last term and came five points short in 2022-23.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is looking to significantly improve their points tally in 2024-25 after the return of 89 points Man City won the title with in 2022-23 was only good enough for second place last term, and the Spaniard is eyeing a perfect campaign to get the job done.

“I told you anything less than 90, I didn’t believe it would deliver that,” the North Londoners boss replied when asked by ESPN how many points Arsenal need to win the league.

“Let’s start with 114 and see what we get.

“One-hundred-and-fourteen [the maximum points available] wins it and then you start from there. You know that the margins are really, really small and tight and the competition is going to be even harder than the previous season.

“You go game-by-game, earn the right to win every game, that’s all we can think of, and try to improve our players. And make them believe they can do it because now they are good enough to do it.”

Man City picked up the most points (100) in a Premier League season back in 2017-18 while 75 points were enough for Manchester United to land the title in 1996-97.

Arsenal want to win all 38 league games next term, and while that has never been done before, it can never be ruled out despite how difficult it looks.

They went unbeaten back in 2003-04, picking up 90 points following 26 wins and 12 draws.

No team has won more than 32 league games in a single campaign, and Arsenal will have to be on top of their game in every fixture to outdo the record set by Man City (in 2017-18 and 2018-19) and Liverpool (in 2019-20).

The Gunners have a squad capable of winning the Premier League but will need to further strengthen their team if they want to win all 38 league games next season.

That requires an unprecedented squad depth, and every department will need to be bolstered with the right player and quality during the ongoing summer transfer window.

Arsenal have Bologna defender Riccardo Calafiori on their radar and are also looking to add an attacker and midfielder to their ranks.

The North Londoners will fancy their chances of winning the title next season, but it will not come any easy as Man City and co will be standing in their way.
