Summary

  • James Gunn addressed the set photos releasing showing the filming of Superman, explaining he expected them.
  • Gunn debunked rumors Supergirl actor Milly Alcock was in Cleveland to film for the movie, stating she was not in the city to his knowledge.
  • Supergirl could still appear in the Superman movie, if scenes containing the hero were instead filmed at a different location.

James Gunn sets the record straight on a big Supergirl rumor in the Superman movie while also giving his thoughts on the DC Universe set photos. The Superman movie cast is busy with principal photography as the highly-anticipated DC Universe installment nears the end of its principal photography. Filming on Superman is expected to run for a few more weeks throughout July, marking the coming completion of the first movie in the upcoming DCU timeline.

While it is very common for major Hollywood productions to be followed by photographers and videographers, not a lot had been shown for Superman until very recently. The end of June became a big week for the DC Universe audience as Superman's filming took a big spotlight in Cleveland, giving the world many new glimpses of the upcoming film.

Following the arrival of the many Superman set photos, Gunn was asked if he had "any thoughts on the set leaks." With Gunn having worked in Hollywood for as long as he has, the filmmaker explained he "fully expected" there to be a lot of Superman set images.

Gunn also responded to a recent DC Universe rumor, as Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow movie star Milly Alcock was rumored to be on the Superman set this week. The DC Studios co-CEO stressed that Alcock "never has been here unless she’s vacationing in the CLE and hasn’t told me!"

Superman is shaping up to be a film to be remembered, but fans are split on what to think about the new Man of Steel's costume for the upcoming epic.

How Supergirl Could Still Be In The Superman Movie

Ever since Alcock was first cast as Kara Zor-El in the DC Universe, it has been heavily rumored that the House of the Dragon alum would be making her Supergirl debut in a different DC Studios project before her solo film. Gunn said in February that "I never even said she was in the movie," in regards to Supergirl appearing in Superman. However, the director has also not given a definitive no to the idea of Alcock popping up in David Corenswet's DC Universe debut.

While Alcock is not in Cleveland for Superman's ongoing shoot, that doesn't mean she couldn't have filmed some potential scenes at different points during production. As Gunn's movie has been filmed in Atlanta, Georgia, and Svalbard, Norway, it is not outside the realm of possibility that Alcock shot her Supergirl scenes at any of those points. Whatever is not filmed on location and to the public makes any secret cameo appearances a lot easier to keep under wraps.

With the many DC Universe rumors that Gunn has chimed in on over the last year, time will tell if he will ever give a definitive answer to whether Supergirl is in Superman. It wouldn't be shocking if the reason Gunn hasn't responded to those types of direct questions is because he wants the general audience to be surprised if Alcock's Supergirl shows up in the film. For now, though, the world will have to wait and see if Supergirl will take flight in Superman, or if Alcock's debut in the DC Universe will be later down the line.
