WASHINGTON, DC: Singer and actress Barbra Streisand took to the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) on Friday, June 28, to condemn the ruling by the United States Supreme Court to overturn the Chevron decision, reported RawStory.

According to the publication, the 40-year-old precedent allowed courts to defer to the expertise of agency employees when interpreting statutes. With the deference overturned, the courts will now find it easier to strike down all manner of regulations across the entire federal government.

With a prevalence of conservative justices in the SCOTUS, Republicans and Democrats have found themselves on different sides of the issue. However, the original Chevron ruling was ironically issued by conservative justices to protect Ronald Reagan administration policymakers from being overruled by Jimmy Carter-appointed judges.

With the administrative state leaning towards the Democrats at present, right-wing judges have been reportedly clamoring to take back power over the regulatory process over the recent years.

"Chevron is overruled. Courts must exercise their independent judgment in deciding whether an agency has acted within its statutory authority, as the (Administrative Procedure Act) requires," Chief Justice John Roberts wrote for the court.

He further called the earlier decision a "judicial invention that required judges to disregard their statutory duties," reported CBS News.

The court split along ideological lines in the dispute, but the decision marked a significant victory for the conservative legal movement, which has long aimed to unwind or weaken the 1984 decision in Chevron v National Resources Defense Council.

Reacting to the ruling over X, Streisand wrote, "The Supreme Court overruled 40 years of precedent and overturned the Chevron decision. It makes judges and the Supreme Court the regulators of laws passed by Congress rather than the scientific expertise at federal agencies."

"This is not democracy but rule by judicial order. The only beneficiaries are big business and polluters," she added.

Her post was strongly criticized by conservatives on the platform, as the following tweets demonstrate.

"Why does your opinion matter? You are an entertainer," slammed a person.

"Freedom won again. They don’t teach the constitution in gender studies, so you missed it," jibed another.

"Keep your day job! Not a great legal analyst haha! This is a great outcome for our country," wrote a third.

"Trust the science the elites preach from their cozy mansions and gated compounds! Dear God, please leave already," mocked a fourth.

"You’re the most lost person in public," chided a fifth.
