The Hubble Space Telescope has transformed the way we look and understand space. Over the years, its images have helped us look far back into time going almost as far back as the Big Bang. These images are absolutely astounding in their picturization of worlds far away from us. They are also as fascinating, imbued in mesmerizing colors that enchant and captivate. We take a look at 5 such images of galaxies and stars taken by Hubble Telescope that will simply awe you.

Nebula RCW 7

The first Hubble Telescope image is that of a striking collection of interstellar gas and dust and it is called RCW 7. This nebula is in the constellation Puppis some 5,300 light-years from Earth. The importance of nebulae lies in the fact that they are  some of the biggest new star-making areas.

Galaxy NGC 1546

The second image taken by the Hubble Space Telescope is of Galaxy NGC 1546, found in constellation Dorado. Its core glows brightly in a yellowish light. That points to the fact of the presence of old of stars. One of the notable aspects about this image is the presence of galaxies in the background- look to the left of NGC 1546.

NGC 2005

The globular cluster NGC 2005 is located about 750 light-years from the heart of the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC) and can hold tens of thousands or millions of stars. Globular clusters have very long lives and this longevity may have to do with the fact they are densely packed together and bound by gravity. They can be billions of years old.

Barred spiral galaxy NGC 3059

This galaxy lies about 57 million light-years from Earth. The use of wide-band filters revealed the bluish patches that hold older stars.

Spiral Galaxy NGC 4731

This image is of the broad and sweeping spiral galaxy NGC 4731 located 43 million light-years from Earth in the constellation Virgo. The galaxy is marked by billowing clouds of gas, dark dust bands, bright pink star-forming regions. Notably, barred spiral galaxies are greater in number than regular spiral and elliptical galaxies – put together! They make around 60% of all galaxies.
