ADO-EKITI, Nigeria — A domestic dispute in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State, ended tragically on Saturday when a woman was fatally stabbed by her husband amidst allegations of infidelity.

The Ekiti State Police have commenced an investigation into the incident.

Police spokesman DSP Sunday Abutu confirmed that the tragic event occurred on Saturday, April 27, 2024, and that the police were notified on the same day.

The couple involved in the incident reportedly locked themselves in their bedroom before the altercation escalated to violence.

A neighbor, who spoke to journalists, recounted that the husband, a law enforcement agent, had previously accused his wife of infidelity.

The couple, who have two children, sent their elder child on an errand before the incident, leaving their five-year-old in another room.

“The man had earlier accused the deceased of infidelity and neighbours who went to settle the quarrel could not get access to the room as it was firmly locked,” the neighbour explained.

Efforts to mediate were hindered as the room was inaccessible, forcing some neighbours to break through the ceiling to enter.

Upon entry, the neighbours discovered a gruesome scene.

“Some of the peace-makers had to break through the ceiling in the house to gain access into the room only to find the deceased and the man badly injured,” the neighbour added.

The woman appeared unconscious at the time and was quickly rushed to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

The husband was also injured during the incident and was taken to the hospital for treatment under police watch.

The authorities are currently investigating the circumstances leading up to the violence as the community reels from the shock of the event.
