Vanguard reports that Arsenal boosted their title hopes in the Premier League after crushing Chelsea 5-0 at the Emirates.

Pochettino has been under massive pressure at Stamford Bridge over poor performance despite being in the job for less than a year amid a horrific first season in charge of the west Londoners.

The defeat suffered in the hands of their London rivals has renewed the call for his sack among Chelsea fans losing back to back including the 1-0 defeat to Manchester City in the FA Cup semis on Saturday.

The Blues sit ninth in the Premier League with six games remaining and have failed to win any major trophy – in a season in which they had somewhat of an advantage over their rivals for not playing any European league.

Reacting to the Blues’ loss to Arsenal, Ferdinand said much should not be expected from Pochettino side because of the parade of young players some of whom are playing their first season in the Premier League.

Ferdinand revealed this during an interview with TNT Sports stressing that the Argentine manager does not deserve a sack despite the huge investment of the West Londoners.

Chelsea splashed out £434.5 million on players at the start of the campaign, which was the most spent by any club during a transfer window in Premier League history.

It took their total spending under BlueCo to over £1 billion after Todd Boehly et al took over from ex-owner Roman Abramovich in May 2022.

While much condemnation has been aimed at Pochettino – even more criticism has been directed at the Chelsea hierarchy – and Ferdinand belongs to those who hold that the club’s challenges go well beyond their current manager.

“What I would say is that if you have spent a billion pounds on potential then you can’t sack the manager,” Ferdinand told TNT Sports.

“I’m really interested to see how this summer goes in terms of the management situation.

“Mauricio Pochettino, when he gets an appraisal done at the end of the season, that will be one of the first things he says – ‘What do you expect? I have got one of the youngest squads around. I have invested in lots of potential. No real end product all over park’ – We were saying before, where is the experience?

“When there is a rocky moment in the game, where are the people and the characters that are going to drag the young players along?

“The main one, on the bench, was Thiago Silva but he is 38-years-old. They need to buy experience.”
