DSS Embraces Geospatial Intelligence to Combat Insecurity

The Director-General of the State Security Service (SSS), Adeola Ajayi, announced on Monday the agency’s commitment to using geospatial intelligence solutions to tackle national security issues. Speaking at a training session in Abuja, Mr. Ajayi, represented by Dr. Patrick Eneji of the National Institute for Security Studies, emphasized the importance of integrating technology into security operations.

The Leadership Course in Data Mining and Geospatial Intelligence, hosted by the Defence Space Administration and organized in collaboration with the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) and Peace Building Development Consult (PBDC), aims to enhance the SSS’s capabilities in threat analysis and containment.

Under Mr. Ajayi’s leadership, the SSS has advanced its operations to address threats such as espionage and embezzlement more efficiently. The service’s Open Source Intelligence Department is now equipped with sophisticated data mining tools to detect complex security patterns and trends.

Highlighting the necessity of data-driven decision-making in security, Mr. Ajayi noted the growing integration of technological innovations despite challenges like data quality and resource constraints. He expressed optimism that the training would equip participants to overcome obstacles in deploying geospatial technology for national security and economic stability.
