Peachtree City thrift store uses funds to give back to local nonprofits

PEACHTREE CITY, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - A Peachtree City thrift store is giving its customers an opportunity to shop and give back at the same time.

Clothes Less Traveled gives money to local organizations, and even to students needing extra funds for college.

“We started in a tiny, tiny space completely volunteer run 25 years ago. And then several years back, we moved into this space and have continued to expand,” said Kimber Huff-Wilk, executive director of Clothes Less Traveled.

It is what you can’t see that really sets the thrift store apart from others. Some of the funds the store makes are used to work with 78 area nonprofits.

“The nonprofits in Fayette County and Coweta County are doing amazing, incredible things and meeting so many needs,” said Huff-Wilk.

The money is also used for grants. This year, the organization said more than $200,000 in grant money will be given out.

“In addition to doing the grant, we also do free workshops and networking events,” said Huff-Wilk.

And you can’t forget scholarships. The store gives out scholarships to help some student volunteers pay for college. The organization said $31,000 in scholarship money has been given away this year.

This is one place where putting more in your cart might not actually be a bad thing.
