Three youth-focused nonprofits are receiving a total of $47,000 in grants towards mentoring more than 400 young people in Lancaster County.

The Touchstone Foundation Youth Mentorship Partnership Funds will support the training of staff and volunteer mentors at Bench Mark Program, Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Capital Region, and Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of Lancaster and Lebanon Counties.

The Lancaster city-based foundation, which focuses on youth mental health, said the three organizations will “ensure that mentors understand trauma-informed care to support youth growth and development through adversity.”

An estimated 422 Lancaster County youths at the three nonprofits will receive mentorship next year, according to foundation program manager Shanece Bowman.

The Lancaster city-based Bench Mark Program, which offers mentoring for underserved youth through its open gym and other programs, will mentor an estimated 47 youths, according to the foundation.

At Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Capital Region, the grant will support a mentorship program for elementary and middle school students, the foundation said. The Harrisburg-based organization will provide high school mentors to approximately 100 children.

CASA of Lancaster and Lebanon Counties, which is based in Lancaster city and provides court-appointed volunteer advocates to children who have been abused and neglected, will mentor around 275 older youths, according to the foundation.
