  • Comedian Tom Segura revealed off-camera moments with Colbert that didn't make it to air, highlighting the host's edgy comedy style, while other guests like Jon Lovitz refuse to appear on the show due to its political focus.

Even before the interview aired, fans went after Prince Harry. The audience was excited for the interview. However, it ended up being a pre-taped discussion for security reasons. That was a major bummer for fans, and the same held true for the audience at home. The fake laugh and applause track did more harm than good for the overall interview, in truth.

Fans had split reactions to the controversial interview. However, there is no denying that one moment in particular was very hard to watch. It all takes place after Stephen Colbert triggers Prince Harry by telling his guest a part of their interview would be edited out. Fans saw an ugly response from Harry, and one that might've showed his true colors.

Let's take a look back at that moment and so much more from their conversation a year ago. In addition, we'll take a look at other behind the scenes Late Show moments.

Prince Harry Called His Interview With Stephen Colbert "A Slow Deteriorating Situation"

The interview took place one year ago, and clearly, the circumstances were very different for Stephen Colbert. His interview with Prince Harry did not feature an audience for security reasons. Instead, an awful laugh track was used throughout the interview.

As for the chat itself, Prince Harry did open up.

What was discussed between Prince Harry and Stephen Colbert?

  • Prince Harry discussed his book, Spare.
  • He responded to the comments about his service in Afghanistan.
  • Protecting his family from the press.
  • And taking on the Colbert Questionert.

Fans have various opinions on whether the interview was awkward. However, there is no denying that a certain moment did have fans cringing. It seems like Harry was triggered by Stephen Colbert's comments.

"It was slow deteriorating situation," Prince Harry says. Colbert jokingly responds, "That's the part we are editing out of this interview right there." Harry adds, "Very similar to this experience."

Colbert then asks for clarity, but Harry wants to move on and tells the host to do his thing... The moment can be seen in Reddit link below.

Although Conan O'Brien is the king of interviews with Aubrey Plaza, Stephen Colbert was given major props by fans, unlike Jimmy Fallon.

As expected, fans on Reddit did not react positively to the moment. Harry received some online hate by fans:

  • "Watching this clip it becomes very easy to see an uglier angry side of Harry just at the surface. That is a man with no self control or ability to handle the slightest criticism. We knew, but hopefully the rest of the world can play catch up."
  • "Harry really is very thin skinned, easy to anger, even when he is being interviewed to sell his tripe."
  • "I am not a body language expert but immediately noticed the two different times Harry stuck his tongue into his cheek. He obviously was ticked off at those points. Internally seething. Yikes."

It was a tough moment to watch, but on the contrary, there were lots of other fans that actually appreciated the interview between the two.

On The Flip Side, A Portion Of Fans Called It Prince Harry's Best Interview Ever

The comments section for the interview on YouTube was absolutely stacked, with over 33K fans sharing their opinions on the interview. The reaction was very mixed among fans. Some actually felt as though it was Harry's best interview, while host Stephen Colbert also showed his emotional side during the conversation.

What were the most liked fan reactions on YouTube?

  • "When Colbert asked Harry how it felt like to outlive his mother, it reminded me of how Colbert's father died in a plane crash at age 53 along with two of Colbert's brothers when Colbert was 10 years old. Colbert is now 58. He was definitely asking that question from a place of having gone through it before himself."
  • "This interview was 1000 times better than the one on 60 minutes."
  • "Mr.Colbert....you certainly need an award-winning Oscar for this interview..."

Prince Harry also took on The Colbert Questionert. Harry said mental health coaching is the most used app on his phone, BetterUp . He also said "freedom, happiness, clarity, space and love," best describe the rest of his life.

It was a somber atmosphere at The Late Show as Stephen Colbert closed off the show earlier than expected, without Matt Damon.

It remains to be seen if Prince Harry will ever return to the show. Yes, it generated mixed reactions, but at the same time, it certainly got fans talking.

Stephen Colbert Had Other Awkward Moments That Were Cut From The Late Show

It was comedian Tom Seguara that mentioned off-camera moments during his interview alongside Stephen Colbert. According to Segura, Colbert was the opposite of what he expected off-camera. Tom especially enjoyed Colbert's edgy comedy, though he admitted a lot of their conversation didn't make it onto the Late Show.

Segura pointed to a specific moment in which Colbert comments on his attire. The host allegedly thanked for not dressing like a "fat piece of s***."

Segura added, "He was so funny. And when he said that, I felt like it's open season. I figured they were going to bleep it, but they cut it all out." Segura continues, "We talked about the hierarchy of Latin American countries. And I was like, this is definitely not airing."

Although Segura is a comedian that loved his time with Colbert, the same doesn't hold true for everyone. Fans felt as though Bill Burr's chat with Colbert was extremely awkward, and the biggest reason as to why he never returned. In addition, Jon Lovitz refused to be a guest on The Late Show given Colbert's politically motivated show, and banned himself from The Late Show. Lovitz prefers a lighthearted style similar to what Jimmy Fallon offers.
