Arsenal are likely to be busy on the transfer front over the coming weeks as Mikel Arteta and Edu look to bolster their ranks.

The Gunners took the Premier League title battle to the final day of the season, showing how far they’ve come in the past few years.

This summer, Arsenal’s job will be to strengthen their squad so they can get their hands on a trophy that has eluded them since 2004.

Outgoings are also on the cards, with the Gunners likely to offload players that are surplus to Arteta’s requirements.

Now, Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on a “special” Arsenal player who is being sought after by a record-breaking club overseas.

Arsenal in talks with Sevilla over Albert Sambi Lokonga

The player in question is Albert Sambi Lokonga, who appears to be surplus to Arsenal’s requirements after spending the last 18 months away on loan.

Romano, writing on X, has reported that Arsenal have given the green light to sell the 24-year-old, who Vincent Kompany described as “special” on FIVE.

In turn, Lokonga is said to be keen on a move to Sevilla, added the transfer insider.

Talks are in full swing between Arsenal and the seven-time UEFA Cup / Europa League winners, with the value of the buy clause a subject of negotiations.

Lokonga set to kickstart his career away from Arsenal

Arsenal signed Lokonga from Anderlecht back in June 2021 for a reported £17.2million fee.

The 24-year-old arrived in north London as one of the best players in the Belgian top flight, having captained Anderlecht at the age of 21.

“I think Arsenal made a good decision on him and I think he is going to be a top player for Arsenal in the years to come,” Anderlecht sporting director Peter Verbeke said at the time.

However, Lokonga has failed to make much of an impact at the Emirates Stadium, and hasn’t played competitively for the Gunners since January 2023.

This looks like a move that will benefit all parties. Arsenal make some money for a player they’re not using, the player himself gets to kickstart his career elsewhere, and Sevilla get their hands on a top talent who can help take them back towards the top of La Liga.
