Decarb.earth Announces Impact Carbon Standard Validation

Decarb.earth has announced that its Impact Carbon Standard version 1.2 has received validation from SGS. This validation marks a milestone in Decarb.earth's ongoing commitment to combating climate change and promoting sustainable development through transparent and accountable carbon credits.

Achieving this validation is not just a testament to the robustness and integrity of Decarb.earth standard, but it also underscores the company's dedication to pioneering excellence in the carbon market, says the company.

According to Decarb.earth, this validation propels the company forward in its mission to create a sustainable future, where innovative solutions and stringent verification processes ensure real and measurable impacts on the environment and communities.

Kiki Hughes, chief experience officer at Decarb.earth, says, "This verification is a pivotal step towards our overarching goal of revolutionising the carbon market. It validates our commitment to quality and transparency, ensuring that every carbon credit generated through our platform makes a verifiable impact."

"Our vision is to set a new standard in the industry, where trust and effectiveness are paramount, and this validation from SGS brings us closer to that vision," adds Hughes.

Validation Highlights

The validation comprises the following:

Objective and Scope

As an independent third-party, Decarb.earth wanted SGS to support the validation of the Decarb.earth Impact Carbon Standard, ensuring its alignment with ISO 14064-2:2019 standards.

The validation process assesses the standard's framework, says Decarb.earth.

According to Decarb.earth, this includes:

  • project implementation
  • monitoring
  • carbon credit methodology selection
  • calculation and issuance
  • validation and verification
  • digital carbon registry
  • non-permanence risk management, and
  • dispute resolution.

Robust and Well-Structured

The comprehensive assessment determined that the Decarb.earth Impact Carbon Standard is robust and well-structured, says the company.

According to the company, the Impact Carbon Standard demonstrates a clear understanding of key principles, including:

  • additionality
  • accuracy
  • availability, and
  • consistency.

Through this, Decarb.earth says that it is providing a systematic approach to project acceptance, monitoring and verification.

Enhanced Transparency and Accountability

The standard enhances transparency and accountability in the carbon credit market by leveraging independent third-party verification partners accredited under ISO 14065:2020, says Decarb.earth. This enhances credibility and trust in the carbon credit issuance process.

Commitment to Best Practices

According to the company, the incorporation of updated methodologies, impact criteria and data management procedures reflects its commitment to staying aligned with evolving best practices and regulatory requirements.

Francesca Cerchia, global head of climate change and sustainability solutions at SGS, says, "The Decarb.earth impact carbon standard v1.2 dated 16/06/2024 appears to be well-designed to meet the objectives of mitigating climate change, promoting sustainable development and ensuring the reliability of carbon credits generated through its platform."

Cerchia concludes, "Its thoroughness in addressing key aspects of project eligibility, verification principles and dispute resolution mechanisms instills confidence in its ability to facilitate credible and impactful carbon offsetting activities."
