MORGAN COUNTY, Alabama – Alabama paramedics had to push a gurney with a drowning victim to the hospital after their ambulance broke down.

A 2-year-old child was found in a pool of a home on Gandy’s Cove Road near Falkville Monday evening.

Morgan County Sheriff’s Office and emergency services responded to the house, according to WAFF-TV.

While transporting the child to Cullman Regional Medical Center, the transport vehicle broke down about a quarter of a mile from the hospital, according to a statement from Decatur Morgan Hospital.

“Paramedics unloaded and continued on foot with the child on the gurney, while continuing to perform CPR. The cause of the vehicle breakdown is not known at this time,” the statement said.

The child was pronounced dead at the hospital.

“Sadly, the 2 year old did not survive. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and all of those that responded to the scene or treated the child,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement on Facebook.

The identity of the child has not yet been released.
