KNYSNA - Andy Muir, a long-time Knysna resident and local optometrist was inducted as the 63rd Rotary Club of Knysna President at a lunch-time event held recently at Amble Ridge Club house.

In his acceptance speech, Andy thanked outgoing president Herb Hunter for making Rotary proud of the efforts of the club.

Andy has a passion, like so many others in Knysna, for local communities and to understand their needs.

As he says, "we would like to continue to drive the work of Rotary International through the local arm of the organisation, along with local partners such as Rotary Anns, Rotaract and the 7 School Interact Clubs and other NPOs working in community building projects.

"Our emphasis is on sustainable solutions for local communities".

Rotary International's 7 focus areas are:

n Promoting Peace

n Fighting Disease

n Providing Clean Water and Hygiene

n Saving Women and Children

n Supporting Education

n Growing Local Economies

n Protecting the Environment

Andy is excited to extend Rotary's influence. Hard-working people have been included in his new board and projects are currently being worked on.

He put out an appeal, "We need assistance for all the work envisaged and perhaps you feel a need to join this illustrious organisation, or are new to Knysna and feeling like assisting in some way, or maybe you have skills in Rotary International's 7 focus areas.
