Unidentified gunmen on Saturday shot dead a middle-aged woman dead in Ado-Ekiti, the Ekiti State capital.

It was learnt that incident happened at a junction close to the Federal Polytechnic, Ado-Ekiti Continuing Education Center, off NTA Road, Ado-Ekiti around 7am.

Recall that no fewer than four persons were shot dead by gunmen in Ado-Ekiti in the  last few weeks in similar circumstances.

Reports from the locals said the assailants came on a bike and attempted to collect the woman’s bag as she stood by the roadside.

The deceased had resisted the attackers before she was overpowered and shot dead on the spot. The incident caused panic in the area as many scampered for safety. Many traders hurriedly closed their shops and fled the scene.

Ekiti State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Sunday Abutu said it was a robbery incident, adding that the sum of N40,280 was found in her bag.

He said her body had been deposited in the morgue and the police is on the trail of the criminals.
