The Embraer Phenom 300 is a famous small jet manufactured by the Brazilian manufacturer of the same name. We had the opportunity to fly on the enhanced version; you can read more about it here.

How fast can it go?

In this article, we will specifically focus on the original "legacy" Embraer 300 model, distinguishing it from the enhanced version, which boasts slightly more power and advanced features. Although it is to be noted that the range and speed differences are marginal between the 300 and 300E.

Whether it's the legacy version or the enhanced variant, owners and operators of these jets can expect impressive performance. These jets can reach a maximum speed of 859 km/h, which is equivalent to 534 mph or 464 knots. Regarding range, these aircraft can cover a distance of 3,723 km, or 2,313 miles (2,010 nautical miles), when following instrument flight rules (IFR) and carrying five occupants, including adequate reserves.

What are the differences between Embraer Phenom 300 and 300E?

The aircraft known as the EMB 505 are essentially the same, allowing pilots to operate both variants without needing a specific type rating. This is similar to the commercial aviation model of Boeing 777-300 and 777-300ER.

Embraer introduced the Phenom 300E, an upgraded model within their renowned Phenom series. It features numerous enhancements that represent a significant advancement in the light jet category. The aircraft's interior underwent a comprehensive redesign to provide passengers with a refreshed and more comfortable cabin experience.

The avionics suite was significantly improved by adopting a Garmin-G3000-based Prodigy Touch system, enhancing functionality and pilot interaction in the cockpit. Moreover, introducing a new Ground Power Mode for the engines added operational flexibility.

An even more improved Phenom

In 2020, Embraer unveiled further upgrades to the Phenom 300E, solidifying its position as a leader in its class. The enhancements included advanced PW535E1 engines with increased thrust, elevating the maximum speed from Mach 0.78 (464 knots) to Mach 0.80 (446 knots) and extending the jet's range from 1,992 nautical miles to 2,010 nautical miles (3,689 km to 3,723 km; 2,292 mi to 2,313 mi).

The upgrade also encompassed avionics improvements such as predictive wind shear awareness, a stabilized approach feature, and an innovative Embraer-developed Runway Overrun Awareness and Alerting System (ROAAS) to enhance safety and performance. Additionally, the upgrade introduced the Bossa Nova interior option, providing an even more luxurious and stylish cabin tailored for discerning travelers. These improvements exemplify Embraer's dedication to innovation and excellence in the highly competitive light jet market.

How much does it cost to own?

The Embraer 300 has been in production since 2008/2009, making the oldest jets between 14 and 16 years old. While the aircraft is still being produced today, according to the Embraer website, only the 300E model is currently in production. This decision could be driven by the manufacturer's desire to offer the best possible product to those interested in purchasing new airframes.

The Private Jet Card Comparison website states that a new Embraer 300 model would cost around $11 million, which makes it somewhat affordable within the private jet category. Many operators have examples available to charter such as Netjets.

On the other hand, second-hand airframes are typically less expensive. According to Controller, a 2013-built Embraer 300 (non-enhanced version) would cost around $7 million.

What are the operating costs of the aircraft?

According to Liberty Jet Management, if you were to fly a Phenom 300E private jet for 200 hours per year, the estimated annual budget would be around $802,352. If the flying time increased to 400 hours yearly, the estimated annual budget would be approximately $1,215,574.

Although the maximum speed of the Phenom 300E is 482 mph, the average speed during climb, cruise, and descent is expected to be around 386 mph. This means that the average cost per mile would be approximately $10.40 when flying 200 hours per year while increasing the flying time to 400 hours per year would reduce the average cost per mile to around $7.88, as the total fixed costs are spread over more flight hours.

What is it like to fly onboard?

There is some in-flight entertainment available, as the aircraft can soar through the skies for up to four hours. However, it's more commonly observed gracing the airways of significantly shorter journeys. Keen observers and aviation enthusiasts who've had the pleasure of tracking Phenom 300Es on Flightradar24 are well aware of the impressive range these compact private jets possess, often embarking on voyages that exceed three hours.

As such, passengers are presented with a few engaging options to while away the time. Among these is a suite of IFE screens that grant users the power to adjust lighting and cabin temperature to their liking and offer the convenience of syncing their smartphones with the system for music playback.

What about the seating configuration?

The aircraft boasts an eight-seat configuration, including two front-facing seats by the entrance, a mid-cabin quartet to face each other, and a duo of seats at the back.
