The Institute of Public Accountants of Uganda (ICPAU) has recommended to the government to continue trusting the body by involving it in policy development and reforms to promote productivity in the country.

This comes after President Yoweri Museveni had just refrained from assenting to the 2024-2025 National Budget and directed Parliament to reallocate the 72.3Shs Trillion.

CPA Josephine Okui Ossiya, the President of ICPAU while opening the 12th Certified Public Accountants (CPA) Economic Forum at Entebbe noted that the will of the government towards the transformation of the country’s society is evident, but they need to get involved as much as possible, not only through contributing to resource mobilization, but also through input into other development policies.

She says that since policy forms the foundation for progress, ICPAU deserves to debate actively throughout the forum period.

Ossiya says that it was good that the government prioritized marketing and promotion of Uganda’s tourism sector based on their previous recommendation made on Tourism in the last Financial Year in the 11 CPA Economic Forums.

CPA Derrick Nkajja, the ICPAU Chief Executive Officer and Council Secretary emphasize that this year’s forum theme: “Enhancing the Productive Sectors for Sustainable Development”, seeks to highlight new approaches for developing and harnessing the potential of the productive sectors.

He calls on the government to prioritize the productive sectors of the economy such as agriculture, industry and services, which have over time proven to be potential generators of household income and employment opportunities.
