Former Minister of Youths and Sports, Sunday Dare, has praised President Bola Tinubu for greenlighting a ₦1 trillion support fund aimed at households nationwide across all six geo-political zones. Dare highlighted that President Tinubu’s initiative demonstrates a strong commitment to tackling the prevalent challenges of hunger and hardship faced by citizens.

Describing the ₦1 trillion support fund as “remarkable,” Dare remarked, “It deserves recognition as a resolute declaration of commitment.”

The former Minister emphasized, “President Tinubu’s approval of a trillion naira fund for the immediate rollout of the National Construction and Household Support Programme, covering every geo-political zone in Nigeria, comes at an opportune moment.”

During the National Economic Council (NEC) meeting on Thursday, June 27, President Tinubu, together with 36 state governors and the Minister of Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, sanctioned the ₦1 trillion National Construction and Household Support Programme.

According to Ajuri Ngelale, Tinubu’s Media and Publicity Adviser, the ₦1 trillion fund is set to enhance agricultural productivity, bolster the economy by creating opportunities in agriculture, manufacturing, and construction sectors, and provide urgent economic relief to Nigerians.

Breaking down the allocation, Ajuri explained that ₦10 billion would be allotted as a one-time grant to states and the Federal Capital Territory for bus procurement and the CNG uplift programme.

Additionally, the fund will ensure that each state receives a ₦50,000 uplift grant for 100,000 families over a three-month period, with provisions for labor unions and civil society organizations.

Furthermore, ₦155 billion will be allocated for purchasing and distributing various food items nationwide.

Addressing the governors during the NEC meeting, Tinubu stressed his administration’s commitment to supporting state programs aimed at achieving food sufficiency. He urged prompt action in addressing the rising hunger crisis, stating, “Time is of the essence.”

Tinubu emphasized, “We are prepared to support you with agricultural mechanization and high-quality seedlings. Solar-powered irrigation facilities will also be provided to support farmers year-round, but our primary goal must be to produce. We must produce the food our people consume.”

He urged coordination and deliberate efforts among members of the National Economic Council to achieve these goals.

In concluding remarks, Tinubu assured governors of his administration’s readiness to provide necessary support in achieving these targets, urging them to submit detailed reports within seven days on the required assistance.

“How much support do you need and in what form? I am ready to provide it. But we must achieve results. We must meet our targets at all levels. Please report back following your consultations and submit to my office within seven days,” Ajuri quoted President Tinubu.
