What is Project 2025?

Project 2025 is a collection of conservative and right-wing policy proposals meant to reshape the United States federal government.

The proposed policies will consolidate executive power but rely on the Republican Party candidate winning the 2024 presidential election.

According to Project 2025, the project will be built on four pillars: a policy agenda, personnel, training, and a 180-day playbook.

The 922-page project makes several policy proposals including reshaping the powers of the executive branch, according to The Hill.

The project, also known as the 2025 Presidential Transition Project, also calls for the removal of several small government agencies.

While it does not call for a nationwide ban on abortion, it does propose removing the abortion pill from the market.

Another policy being proposed is reimplementing Schedule F.

Former President Donald Trump originally signed Schedule F into law as an executive order in October 2020.

The law stipulated a classification for federal workers that made it easier to fire them and replace them with loyalists, per The Hill.

President Joe Biden blocked the law and made it harder to fire civil servants.

Who proposed Project 2025?

Project 2025 was proposed by The Heritage Foundation in April 2023.

However, the proposal has gained significant traction and media coverage throughout the 2024 Presidential election.

The Heritage Foundation is a research and educational institution established in 1973 to promote conservative policies.

BBC reports that Project 2025 is backed by a $22 million budget.

The outlet also reports that the proposal was drafted by longtime allies of former President Trump and former officials in his administration.

Furthermore, BBC speculated that several proposals would face immediate legal challenges if they were implemented.

What has Donald Trump said about Project 2025?

Although former President Donald Trump has backed several of the proposed policies in his 2024 campaign speeches, he has also distanced himself from Project 2025.

On July 5, 2024, Trump wrote on Truth Social that he had nothing to do with the project.

He said, “I know nothing about Project 2025. I have no idea who is behind it.

“I disagree with some of the things they’re saying and some of the things they’re saying are absolutely ridiculous and abysmal.

“Anything they do, I wish them luck, but I have nothing to do with them.”
