Presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in Nigeria, Peter Obi, has congratulated the leader of Labour Party in the United Kingdom, Keir Starmer on his party’s victory at the just concluded election.

In the general polls which held on Thursday, July 4, Labour Party defeated Prime Minister Rishi Sunak’s Conservative Party, having reached the required 326 parliamentary seats.

Labour Party being declared the official winner of the UK’s general election brought an end to the Conservative’s 14-year hold on power.

Reacting to the outcome via his official Twitter (X) account on Friday, Obi suggested that both countries work together to build a brighter future for the Commonwealth.

He said that Nigeria could greatly benefit from the support of the United Kingdom as it grapples with issues of insecurity, education, healthcare, and poverty.

The former Anambra State Governor said Keir Starmer and the UK Labour Party’s landslide victory, should translate to a better and new chapter for all UK residents, and he expects stronger ties between the UK and Nigeria to help deepen democracy.
