• Asa Asika, Davido’s astute manager, set tongues wagging across the internet with his intriguing response to a query regarding the possibility of OBO collaborating with industry heavyweights Wizkid and Burna Boy.
• Making an appearance on Ventes Rap, Asika was pressed on why Davido had yet to join forces with either of the acclaimed artists on a track.

Asa Asika, the manager of Afrobeats sensation David ‘Davido’ Adeleke, recently offered intriguing insights into the dynamics behind collaborations among top musicians.

Asika found himself in the spotlight during his recent appearance on the Ventes Rap show, where the interviewer didn’t hold back in questioning him about Davido’s apparent lack of musical collaborations with industry giants like Wizkid and Burna Boy.

The interviewer asked;

“How come we don’t see Davido featuring Burna Boy or Wizkid?” 

In his reply, Davido’s manager skillfully sidestepped providing a direct response to the question, opting instead to pivot the conversation towards the collaborative efforts of prominent musicians.

He pointed out that Davido has collaborated with Kizz Daniel, while Burna Boy and Wizkid have also joined forces on a track.

Asake also highlighted Asake’s collaboration with Davido, underscored the interconnectedness and synergy within the music industry.

In his words:

“There have been collaborations, Burna Boy and Wizkid have a song, Davido and Kizz Daniel have a song, Davido and Olamide have a song, Asake is on David’s album, so the big artistes in Nigeria work, they might not collaborate as often but they definitely do. Collaboration is one of the major things that have pushed Afrobeats to where it is.” 

Continuing his discourse, Asika asserted that while Latin American musicians readily collaborate on songs, it’s a stark contrast to the approach in the Afrobeats scene.

He emphasized that the collaborative culture prevalent in Latin America simply isn’t the style embraced by Nigerian musicians within the Afrobeats genre.

Asika added:

“You probably will never get a song that has Davido, Burna Boy, Wizkid, Asake, all on one song, that’s not really Afrobeat’s style.”
