Bid to reform, modernise schools, say officials; almost 19,000 teachers promoted
The Telangana government, as part of its effort to reform and modernise government schools, has started transferring teachers and posting them based on the number of students in each school.
The School Education Department aims to attain a ratio of one teacher for every 10 students to improve the quality of education in government schools. Commissioner and Director of School Education, A Sridevasena, said sanctioned teacher posts would be filled accordingly. Recently, the state government promoted 18,942 teachers.
The previous Bharat Rashtra Samiti government had appointed one teacher for 19 students, two if the student strength was 20-60, and three teachers for 61-90 students.
Under the current state government, the plan is to have one teacher for a school with a strength of 1-10 students; two for a school with 11-40 students, and three teachers for 41-60 students. In schools where the strength is above 61, the option has been made available for teachers to apply online.
From today, the Telangana – Skills, Academic and Training (T-SAT) Network has also rolled out digital lessons for the benefit of government school students in the state.
Under it, nearly 60 lakh students in over 29,400 government schools can access digital lessons covering 1,498 topics between 10 am and 4.30 pm. The classes will be telecast in Telugu, Hindi and English for mathematics, science and social studies. The digital classes would be accessible on T-SAT Vidya channel, the T-SAT app as well as the YouTube channel.
The state government is also building integrated residential school campuses in all 119 Assembly constituencies in the state, where SC, ST, BC and Minority Gurukul schools would be established under a single roof.
As a pilot, the construction of such campuses will be taken up in Kodangal, where Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy hails from, and Madhira, from where Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Mallu Vikaramarka is the MLA. Each such complex will be developed in an area of 20-25 acres and will have world-class facilities. The objective is to develop a competitive spirit among students and eliminate discrimination on caste and religious lines, officials said.
